Liniment: its benefits for your baby

The liniment, liniment, oil also known as limestone is a natural base of olive oil used to clean and protect baby's bottom. Here's what to know about the liniment and some tips for making your own.

Liniment: what is it?

The liniment, oil is a limestone mixture of vegetable oil (eg olive oil) and water lime (or calcium hydroxide:''''limestone). This very old recipe used to soothe and prevent irritation and redness .

In addition, the liniment ointment form of fat which isolates the skin of baby 's urine and stool.First her buttocks are better protected, and the other baby's stools are easier to clean!

Natural product and environmentally friendly, the liniment is a soft substance to the skin, but also an economical solution!

Under what circumstances do we use the liniment?

You can use the liniment on washable wipes (the most environmentally friendly), or with cotton or Kleenex:

- To clean baby's bottom;
- To moisturize baby's face. Note however that does not apply near eyes;
- To treat eczema, but make sure you ask your pediatrician that it does not require a more specific treatment;
- To massage baby;
- As a milk bath;
- To eliminate cradle cap. Apply for this liniment on the evening, let it sit overnight then remove it with a comb in the morning.

NB : for you, the liniment is an excellent natural cleanser and moisturizer very effective. It is also perfectly suited for skin allergies.

And finally know that you can coat your sore nipples the first days of breastfeeding . However, you must rinse them before feeding.

Manufacturing liniment

Sure, you can buy in pharmacies or liniment in some specialty stores. But you can also manufacture it yourself ! It is a very simple recipe.

Take a small bowl clean. Pour vegetable oil 50% and 50% of lime water (found in pharmacies), or 125 ml of each ingredient for 250ml of liniment. Beat or mix and it's ready! Keep the liquid obtained in a bottle or vial. It will shake before each use.

Warning : lime water is not aggressive when mixed with oil. But pure, it must be handled with care!

Vegetable oils do not have all the same benefits :

- Olive oil nourishes and protects;
- Sweet almond oil is recommended for sensitive skin like babies (careful it can be a source of allergy for babies);
- Jojoba oil is suitable for all skin types.
